Google Ads can be the fastest way to get your phone ringing with the jobs you want, or the fastest way to burn money on clicks that never call. The difference is almost always in the setup and the weekly attention: which searches you pay for, where your ads show, what happens when someone calls, and whether anyone is listening to those calls.
I’m Jeff, and I manage Google Ads for trades businesses across Metro Detroit and Michigan. You pay me a flat monthly fee, Google bills your ad spend directly to you, every call is recorded, and there’s no setup fee. After a 3-month minimum, it’s month-to-month. If I’m not earning it, you can leave.
When someone searches “water heater replacement Canton” or “AC not cooling” or “roof leak repair,” they have a problem and usually a budget. Google Ads put you in front of that person at that moment, in the cities you pick, for the services you choose. Unlike shared lead sites, the homeowner calls you and only you.
Google Ads also give you control that other channels don’t. You decide which jobs to go after, which hours your ads run, how far you’ll drive, and how much you spend each day. You can push hard on high-value work like replacements and full installs and stay out of the cheap-repair bidding wars.
I build campaigns and ad groups around the jobs you actually want: emergency repair, replacement and install, maintenance, and specialty work. Each gets its own keywords and ads, so a “furnace replacement” searcher doesn’t see the same ad as a “furnace making noise” searcher.
I pick keywords with clear buying intent and build negative keyword lists to block searches you shouldn’t pay for: DIY how-tos, job seekers, parts stores, and services you don’t offer. I review the search terms report every week and keep tightening it.
Your ads show only in the cities, ZIP codes, or radius you serve, and only during the hours you want calls. If you take after-hours emergencies, we’ll run ads then. If you don’t, we won’t.
Every call from your ads is recorded and tracked. You can listen to any call, hear how your team handles it, and see which keywords and campaigns produced real customers. This is the part of Google Ads most trades owners have never had, and it changes how decisions get made.
I set up or audit Google Analytics and conversion tracking, so calls, form fills, and booked appointments are counted properly. Without this, Google’s automated bidding is guessing.
I write your ads and use every relevant asset: call buttons, locations, service highlights, and reviews where eligible. If your landing page is losing calls, I’ll show you exactly what to change, or point traffic to a page built to convert.
Every month you get a plain-English report and strategy email covering calls, leads, cost per lead, what changed, and what’s next. No vanity metrics.
You work with Jeff, the person building and running your campaigns, not a rotating account rep.
We talk about your trade, service area, the jobs you want more of, and what you’ve tried before. If Google Ads aren’t the right first move, I’ll say so.
If you already have a Google Ads account, I review what’s working and what’s wasting money. If you don’t, I set up a new account in your name, with billing on your card. You keep ownership of the account and its data.
Before any ad goes live, I set up call recording, call tracking, and conversion tracking, and confirm they’re firing. Spending money without tracking is how most bad Google Ads experiences start.
I build the campaigns, keywords, negatives, ads, and assets, review them with you, and launch. Expect the first few weeks to be a learning period while data comes in.
Every week I check search terms, add negatives, adjust bids and budgets, pause what isn’t working, and listen to call samples. Every month you get the report.
Google Ads management is a flat monthly fee. That fee doesn’t change when your ad spend goes up, so I have no reason to push you to spend more than makes sense. Your ad spend is billed directly by Google to your card, with no margin taken by me, and you see every dollar in your own account. There’s no setup fee. The first term is a 3-month minimum, enough time to set up tracking, gather data, and optimize, and after that it’s month-to-month.
I don’t publish dollar amounts because the right ad budget depends on your trade, your service area, and how hard competitors bid there. I’ll recommend a starting budget and quote my fee on a 15-minute call. For the full picture, see how my pricing works.
Google Ads work best alongside the rest of your Google presence. Local Services Ads sit above regular ads and charge per lead. Your Google Business Profile gets you into the map pack. GoHighLevel automation makes sure missed calls and new leads get followed up instantly. You can see all four on the services page.
Each trade uses Google Ads differently. Read the page for yours:
Enough to get a meaningful number of calls each month in your area, and no more than your crew can handle. That number varies a lot by trade and city, so I’ll recommend a starting budget after looking at your market, and adjust once we see real cost per lead.
You do. The account is in your business’s name and billed to your card. If we ever stop working together, you keep the account, the campaigns, and the history.
It goes month-to-month. Stay as long as it’s working for you.
Yes. Every call from your ads is recorded. Listening to a handful each month is one of the best things you can do for your close rate.
The usual culprits are broad keywords, no negative keywords, no call tracking, and nobody checking the account. I’ll audit your old account on our first call if you have one, and show you where the money went.
Not always, but for many plumbers, HVAC companies, roofers, and tree services, running both makes sense: Local Services Ads for emergency and high-trust calls at the very top, Google Ads for specific jobs you want more of. I wrote a comparison for plumbers: Local Services Ads vs. Google Ads.
Fill out the form below and let's get to work!
Book a 15-minute call. I’ll tell you whether Google Ads make sense for your trade and area, what I’d build first, and how the fee works. If you’ve run ads before, bring your account and I’ll show you what I see.
