Most contractors I talk to have tried a little of everything: a website someone’s nephew built, a few months of Google Ads, a lead service that sold the same lead to four other companies. The result is usually the same. They’re spending money, the phone isn’t ringing the way it should, and nobody can tell them which part is working.
I’m Jeff, and I run Campaigns That Convert out of Plymouth, Michigan. I do four things, all of them on Google or tied to how you answer the leads Google sends you. Each one works by itself, but they work best together. Here’s what each one does, how they fit together, and how to decide where to start.
Google Ads put you at the top of search results for the exact jobs you want: “emergency plumber Livonia,” “furnace replacement,” “roof leak repair,” “tree removal near me.” You control which services, which cities, and what hours. I build and manage the campaigns, track calls with call recording, and cut spending on searches that don’t turn into jobs. Terms: a flat monthly management fee, ad spend billed by Google directly, a 3-month minimum then month-to-month, and no setup fee. Learn about Google Ads management.
Local Services Ads sit above the regular ads, show the Google Verified badge, and charge per lead instead of per click. They’re built for emergency and trust-driven calls. I handle setup, verification help, job types, budget, lead disputes, and the responsiveness that affects your ranking. Learn about Local Services Ads management.
Your Google Business Profile is what shows up in the map pack and in Google Maps. I optimize categories, services, and descriptions, post every week, add photos, reply to reviews, and track your rankings with a heatmap across your service area. Learn about Google Business Profile management.
All the leads in the world don’t help if they go to voicemail. I set up missed-call text-back, instant replies to form leads, automated review requests, estimate follow-up, and past-customer reactivation campaigns in GoHighLevel. Learn about GoHighLevel automation.
Think of it as three steps a homeowner goes through.
Google Ads, Local Services Ads, and your Business Profile are three different spots on the same search results page. When someone searches for a water heater replacement, they might see Local Services Ads at the top, then search ads, then the map pack. Showing up in more than one spot means more chances at that call.
Homeowners pick based on what they see: reviews, rating, photos, whether you look local and legit. Your Business Profile and your review count do most of the work here, and both also affect your Local Services Ads ranking.
Once they call or fill out a form, speed wins. Missed-call text-back and instant replies make sure you’re the first to respond, not the third. Review requests after each job then feed the next round of “getting chosen.”
When all three steps are covered, each one makes the others work better. More reviews improve your profile and your Local Services ranking. Faster answers protect the money you spend on ads. Better tracking shows which channel is booking jobs, so the budget goes where it should.
It depends on where you’re losing the most work right now. Here’s how I usually think about it.
Start with GoHighLevel automation. There’s no point paying for more leads if the ones you already get are going to voicemail.
Start with Google Business Profile management. It’s often the foundation for everything else, and it’s required for Local Services Ads.
Local Services Ads and Google Ads can produce calls soonest once they’re live. Local Services Ads need verification first, which Google says averages 3 to 4 weeks, so Google Ads are often the quickest way to get calls while verification runs.
If HomeAdvisor or Angi leads are costing too much and getting shared with other contractors, building your own Google presence (Local Services Ads, Google Ads, and your profile) means leads come to you only. I’d look at what you’re paying per booked job today and compare.
Each trade gets calls differently, so the order and the setup change by trade.
Plumbing is emergency-driven, so speed and visibility at the top of the page come first: Local Services Ads, a strong Business Profile, and missed-call text-back, with Google Ads targeting high-value jobs like water heaters and sewer lines. See marketing for plumbers.
HVAC demand swings with the weather. Budgets need to scale up in the first heat wave or cold snap and pull back in shoulder season, while reactivation campaigns fill the slow months with tune-ups. See marketing for HVAC companies.
Roofing jobs are big and homeowners shop around. Reviews, photos, and estimate follow-up matter as much as getting the lead. See marketing for roofers.
Tree work is part emergency (storm damage) and part planned (trimming, removals). Map visibility outside your home city and text-back for crews in the field are the big wins. See marketing for tree service companies.
You talk to me, not an account rep reading from a script. I’m the one building your campaigns and answering your questions.
Calls are recorded, leads are tagged by source, and you get monthly reports in plain English. You’ll know what each service is doing.
Google Ads management runs on a 3-month minimum, then month-to-month.
I’m based in Plymouth and work with trades businesses across Metro Detroit — Wayne, Oakland, and Washtenaw counties — and the rest of Michigan.
Every service is quoted based on what you need: which services, how many locations, and how many service areas. Ad spend for Google Ads and lead costs for Local Services Ads are billed by Google directly, separate from my fee. I don’t publish dollar amounts, but I’ll give you a straight number on a call. See how my pricing works.
No. Many clients start with one or two. I’ll tell you honestly which one would make the biggest difference first.
My focus is plumbers, HVAC companies, roofers, and tree service companies. If you’re in a related home service trade, book a call and we’ll talk about whether it’s a fit.
Each lead is tracked by source, so your monthly report shows calls, forms, and booked jobs by channel.
Yes. The free audit gives you an optimization score for your Google Business Profile, a heatmap of where you show up on Google Maps, and an action plan. It’s a good way to see where you stand before committing to anything.
Book a 15-minute call and tell me your trade, your service area, and where you’re losing jobs. I’ll tell you which service I’d start with and why.
